Third Wave Thursdays
Third Wave Thursdays blends surf therapy with somatic practice to create a grounded, empowering experience in the water and on the sand. Made possible with grant funding from the Virginia Department of Veteran Services through their SOS Grant supporting suicide prevention and opioid addiction services.
Hosted at beautiful Croatan Beach in Virginia Beach and delivered in partnership with VB Surf Sessions, each session offers expert instruction, supportive pacing, and a community-first vibe.
Together with VB Surf Sessions, we’ll move at a pace that feels safe and supportive for you.
Surf Sessions at Croatan Beach
Surf therapy meets somatic practice at Croatan Beach. Recurring Thursdays, 10 AM–12 PM, in partnership with VB Surf Sessions.
Somatic Summer Sessions:
Four modalities. One summer. A total nervous system reset that sounds like healing and feels like freedom.

Somatic healing is a body-centered approach that works with the connection between your mind and body.
It can help to release chronic tension, stress, and trauma that can be held physically in the body, sometimes without you even realizing it.

Talk therapy builds awareness and helps you understand your story, but that awareness can live in the body as tension, patterns, or reactivity.
Somatic work supports the body in processing those stored responses through awareness, breath, and gentle movement.
It’s often used alongside or following talk therapy not instead of it, but as a continuation of deeper healing. -
Surf sessions are scheduled on Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Please arrive early enough to park, check in, and get settled before the session begins.

We use the BAND app for program communication, updates, reminders, beach day details, and community connection.
BAND is used for general program information only. It is not a private clinical communication platform.

All clinical communication will go through TherapyNotes, our secure clinical practice platform.
TherapyNotes may be used for intake paperwork, clinical communication, scheduling, and therapy-related needs. Please do not use the BAND app for private clinical questions or one-on-one therapy communication.

Yes, in order to participate in surf, you must acknowledge and consent to being able to swim.
If you are interested in just showing up to watch and/or participate in sand group.

The surf sessions are free for registered participants.
The only expected cost is parking. Metered parking is approximately $5.50.

Third Wave surf sessions are hosted at Croatan Beach, located at:
920 Vanderbilt Ave, Virginia Beach, VA
Croatan Beach, South EndSessions take place on the beach in partnership with VB Surf Sessions. The beach location includes bathrooms, showers, and metered parking onsite.

A limited number of spots are available for female veterans through funding provided by the Amy S. Howard Grant and the Department of Veteran Services.
If you qualify, this support can help cover the cost of your sessions.

*We will be on the beach as early as 9:00 AM for somatic practice and splash time.

Additional beach-based offerings sound sessions, somatic coaching, and cohort experiences will be introduced throughout the season as the Third Wave grows.
